In the Field by Gregory Parrott

The "peacekeeping" mission is over. Following a devastating surprise attack, the Guardian Corps is thrust into the brutal reality of a combat tour that was never supposed to happen. PFC Liam O'Connell is forced to trade his wide-eyed ambition for a desperate struggle for survival, realizing that no amount of training could have prepared him for the adrenaline and fear of the front lines.

As the unit triages the wounded and secures the perimeter, First Sergeant Thompson and Captain Reed find themselves at odds with higher command. When official intelligence fails to account for a hidden threat, they must make a life-altering choice: follow a reckless order or trust their gut to protect their soldiers. From the high-risk extractions of CW2 Alex Chen to the strategic mental chess of Major Walker, the cost of courage is weighed in blood. Back home, the families face their own dangerous escalation, proving that when a unit goes under fire, the entire foundation is tested.
