My Stepbrother's Baby - The Complete Trilogy by Calvin Cox

Nora has lived in the same house as her stepbrother Cole since she was seventeen. She is twenty-three when their parents leave the country for six months. He is twenty-four. The careful distance they kept for years does not survive an empty driveway. Volume 1 is the collapse. What starts as a confession in the kitchen becomes a decision. Nora admits she wants a child. Cole decides he will be the one to give it to her. The first night is not an accident. He comes inside her on purpose. She does not pull away. The house changes after that. She sleeps naked. She stays ready. He tracks her cycle and uses her days like a job. Shame thins out under need. By the end of the book she is pregnant, and the word stepsister is no longer doing the work it used to do. Volume 2 follows the late pregnancy, the birth of their daughter June, and the hollow stretch after. Nora hates the empty feeling. Cole waits until she is cleared and then starts again. She asks for the shortest gap. The second pregnancy takes while she is still nursing the first. The six months their parents gave them stops being a deadline and becomes the period in which this family got made. By the last chapter Nora is eight months pregnant with the second child, still his, still refusing a version of the house that puts him back down the hall. Volume 3 opens with labor and the arrival of Tess. The third campaign begins as soon as Nora is allowed to take him again. Then the suitcase hits the driveway. Their parents walk into two children, a third already started, and a kitchen that will not accept a kinder story. Shock tries to become a lecture and runs out of floor. David stays. Linda stays. Neither of them manages blessing. Both of them learn the layout: Nora belongs to Cole, the girls belong to him, and the work does not pause for a guest room. Collected here is one private country that stopped being private, the children it produced, and the choice—made in the dark and then made in front of witnesses—not to make any of it smaller.
