Personality Psychology by Stanley O. Gaines Jr.

Personality Psychology: The Basics, 2nd Edition, offers a comprehensive yet accessible exploration of the field of personality psychology. This updated edition, authored by Stanley O. Gaines, Jr., with contributions from Manuel Ramirez, III, and Norma Rodriguez, delves into the major schools of thought – psychodynamic, behaviourist, humanistic/existential, trait, and the newly combined cognitive/biological perspectives.
Building on the strengths of the first edition, this second edition retains its engaging, jargon-free style and informative breakout boxes, making complex theories easy to understand. It continues to explore why individuals think, feel, and act differently in similar situations, while incorporating fascinating case studies to illustrate key concepts. A significant enhancement in this edition is the inclusion of a groundbreaking chapter, 'Past, present, and future in personality psychology: On "Racial," Cultural, and Ethnic Diversity.' Here, Ramirez and Rodriguez bring their expertise in Latina/o psychology to propose a shift from individual-centric to community-centric perspectives, fully embracing multiculturalism.
Designed for high school students and beginning undergraduates, and suitable for use on A-level courses in the UK, this book is written in accordance with the British Psychological Society’s guidelines. By rigorously examining influential theories, cutting-edge research, and future trends, Personality Psychology: The Basics, 2nd Edition, provides an essential introduction to the discipline, offering fresh insights into the complexities of human behaviour.
