Before Growing, Make Money by Tommie J. Valentine

A business does not need to become big before it proves that it works.

Before Growing, Make Money presents a practical, evidence-driven approach to starting and developing a business without allowing ambition to run ahead of financial reality. Instead of investing heavily in inventory, equipment, employees, complicated systems, or expansion before demand is clear, this book shows how to begin with a more important objective: finding customers who are genuinely willing to pay.

Tommie J. Valentine explains how entrepreneurs can test demand with manageable experiments, distinguish real buying behavior from casual interest, control unnecessary startup expenses, and understand what each sale actually contributes to the business. Readers will also learn how to evaluate customer acquisition, recognize hidden costs, improve pricing decisions, build repeatable processes, and identify the signs that an operation may be ready for greater investment.

Rather than promoting growth at any cost, the book encourages disciplined progress. It explores how early revenue provides useful evidence, why healthy margins matter more than impressive sales figures alone, and how cash, customer behavior, operational capacity, and repeatable results can guide expansion decisions.

Designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, first-time business owners, freelancers, side-hustle builders, and early-stage founders, Before Growing, Make Money offers a grounded framework for turning an idea into a financially stronger business—one tested decision at a time.

Build what customers are willing to support, understand the numbers behind every sale, and expand when the evidence gives you a reason to move.
