The Teen Pact by Jonathan Price

For a year, the town of Mercer has whispered about Nadia Morales—the brilliant, volatile girl who supposedly ran away. But for Aria Lin, Nadia's disappearance is a suffocating silence, a constant disturbance beneath the surface of her carefully curated life, managed by the town's golden boy, Callum Sterling. When a chance encounter leads Aria to the school's enigmatic audio-visual outcast, Jonah Williams, a single, raw audio file shatters everything: Nadia wasn't running. She was screaming from deep within the Mercer Hydroelectric Facility, her voice drowned out by the very machinery designed to power their pristine community. As they delve into the town's darkest secrets, Aria and Jonah uncover a chilling truth: Nadia stumbled upon an industrial-scale toxic dumping operation orchestrated by chemistry teacher Arthur Williams, and her death was no accident. The machine that powered Mercer also buried its lies.

Armed with Jonah's unparalleled forensic audio skills and Aria's sharpened hyper-vigilance, they embark on a perilous journey into the concrete veins of the hydro-plant. From navigating booby-trapped culverts and bypassing failing security systems to decoding hidden data streams and reconstructing a murder, every step brings them closer to the shocking complicity of Mercer's elite. But as they pull back the layers of deceit, they realize the conspiracy runs deeper than just environmental crime. Callum Sterling, the town's supposed protector, emerges as a meticulous orchestrator of manipulation, gas-lighting Aria while systematically covering up Nadia's murder—a cold, calculated game played to preserve his family's power and silence any truth that threatens their carefully constructed reality.

Now, with a ticking clock counting down to a final, catastrophic cover-up, Aria and Jonah must race against the machine and its human architects. Their mission: to hijack the town's most public forum and expose the horrifying truth of Nadia's fate, forcing Mercer to confront the poison beneath its surface. It's a fight for justice, for memory, and for the very soul of a town drowning in its own lies. They will make the machine confess.
